Student Council Election Results are in!

This year our middle school had twenty-two students vying for six Student Council positions: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Commissioner of School Spirit and Commissioner of Spiritual Affairs. The candidates’ campaigns culminated Wednesday, September 22, with speeches before voters. Fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students returned to their rooms to fill out ballots after thoughtfully weighing each candidate’s position. While only one person can serve in each office, we want to thank all of the candidates for their dedication to our school. With so many strong candidates, voting was difficult.

At the end of the day on Wednesday, the newly elected officers introduced themselves in their new role over the school intercom. The officers for the 2010-2011 school year are

President Jack S.

Vice President JT M.

Secretary Erica B.

Treasure Josh C.

Commissioner of School Spirit Natalie L.

Commissioner of Spiritual Affairs Molly H.

Change for Haiti Drive

Your spare change can help the Villa Student Emergency Response Team support relief work in Haiti!

SERT’s “Change for Haiti” drive will run for two weeks, from Monday, January 25 through Friday, February 5. All of the money raised will go directly to the Catholic Relief Services Haiti fund (http://crs.org/).

CRS is providing food, kitchen, and hygiene kits to people affected by the earthquake in Haiti. A $40 food kit that can feed a family of five for 5 days, and the bucket it comes in can be used to collect and store water. That means just $8 can feed a child for 5 days in this critical time of need. Start saving your change and see how quickly it can add up to $8 or more!

Bring in your spare change to collection containers in all homeroom/advisory classrooms, as well as at morning carpool. Cash and check donations are welcome as well; checks should be made out directly to Catholic Relief Services with “Haiti fund” in the memo line.

The Results Are In!

Thank you to all the candidates who showed their support for Villa by running for a Student Council office. Your speeches and campaigns were exemplary.

The Student Council Officers for the year 2009-2010 are:

President: Jenay M.

Vice President: Rosie B.

Secretary: Erica B.

Treasurer: Noah C.

Commissioner of School Spirit: Maddie B.

Commissioner of Spiritual Affairs: Madison M.

Eight Grade Legacy gift from class '08

The eight grade legacy gift from the class of 2008 was recently covered in the July 10th issue of The Catholic Northwest Progress.

“Stonework artist Jeff Homchick stands by the artwork he completed recently at Villa Academy in Seattle. The piece, featuring a map of the world within a compass rose, was the legacy gift to the school from its eighth grade Class of 2008. The compass signifies the many roads the members of this class and future Villa classes will travel. Homchick, who has children at the school, donated the piece, which includes stonework from different parts of the world. Surrounding the compass rose are 16 canisters which hold “time capsules” for graduating classes to fill.”
