Poetry Night 2012

Poetry Night has come to the mark the beginning of the end of students’ tenure at Villa Academy. The evening is an extremely special one at Villa, because the focus is on parents, friends, and family members and a way of saying “Thank You!” for all their love and support.

This is the 18th annual Poetry Night, initially created by Ms. O’Donnell as a fund-raiser for a friend who was a victim of a violent crime. As part of the eighth grade poetry and creative writing unit in Mr. Mabbott’s English class, poems are a mixture of blank and free verse, limericks, haikus, cinquians, literary and religious poems, “Choices” pantoums about the challenges of high school, and creative “Fiction 55” short stories.

This year’s Poetry Night a roaring success. Our graduating eighth graders really shined as the wonderful young adults we’ve all inspired them to be.

Litterless Campaign

Third grade students at Villa Academy have launched a “Litterless Campaign” to reduce litter and raise awareness of how litter negatively affect the environment.  Students are focused on cleaning up the grounds, especially the woods below the school where trash is frequently found.

As part of their campaign, students produced and filmed, “The Littermess Monster, a movie about litter . . . .

Dress for all programs is nice holiday attire.  For kindergarten through 5th grades, free dress the day of their program.

If you wish to have siblings from other Lower or Middle School grades attend any of these programs, please plan to pick up the brother/sister at their classroom 10 minutes before the particular program

Because we need to account for all our students at all times, teachers will not release students with just a note or a phone call. We also request that you do not call the office to page students from class. Siblings of all ages need to be seated with parents/families at all times. Thanks for your help with all these details.

We look forward to seeing you!

P4 Dragon Parade

Picture 2

Ms. Holloway’s P4 dragon dancers paraded from their classroom, on the first floor of the convent, to the library on the 4th floor of Villa’s main building. The preschoolers made a quick stop in Ms. Purn’s 2nd grade classroom to perform their dragon puppet dance. The 2nd grade has also been studying Chinese New Year and was happy to be part of the audience.
