Volunteer Appreciation Week
Dear Villa Academy Community,
In honor of National Volunteer Appreciation Week, we would like to say a heartfelt thank you to all past, present, and future volunteers.
The amount of time and energy volunteers dedicate to our school is incredible! Whether serving lunch, driving on field trips, raising money for the Annual Fund, supervising recess, coaching a sport, organizing the lost and found or uniform exchange, working in the classrooms, serving on the Board of Trustees, Parent Association, or auction committee, and all the other important jobs volunteers do – each and every minute you contribute to Villa Academy makes an amazing difference to the overall educational experience we are able to provide. THANK YOU!!!
Please look for us at drop off Wednesday morning. We will be handing out a delicious treat as a symbol of our appreciation for everything you do.
Thank you so very much for making Villa Academy such a wonderful place.
With warmest regards,
Villa Academy’s Administrative Team

Garden Party
Save the date! We’re breaking ground for Villa’s new garden.
Villa Academy Garden Work Party
April 21, 2012
2:00 to 4:00 pm
The creation of a Garden Learning Center (near the garage on the east side of campus) will provide classroom teachers with an authentic outdoor laboratory for a variety of sustainable, hands-on learning projects. From developing seedlings to measuring perimeter and area to observing insect life, the variety of learning opportunities that a garden will provide for students is limitless. In addition to educational value generated by the project, produce from the garden will be harvested directly for use in the Villa kitchen. This will contribute fresh, organic food and install a sense of pride and appreciation for the fruits of hard work and God’s gifts of creation.
At the work party this Saturday, April 21st, we will be building six 3′x10′ raised beds. The garden layout was designed by students. The raised beds will form the letter V for Villa! We will also be tilling nearby soil for additional planting space.
Families and younger siblings are welcome. Please bring gloves. Tools will be provided. We will also provide snacks and water.
Meet up by the garage below the parking lot.
This is a great way for middle school students to earn 2 community service hours toward third trimester.
Spring is here and it’s time to plant! Please come help us get ready and enjoy some time outside with other members of the Villa community!

Mountain School
On March 28th, sixth grade students visited the North Cascades Institute’s Environmental Learning Center to participate in the Mountain School program, a nationally recognized environmental education program that teaches students about the ecosystems, geology and natural and cultural history of the mountains.

Holy Thursday
Today, Villa second grade students lead Holy Thursday prayer service, during which we remember when Jesus had his last meal with his disciples and instituted the Sacrament of Eucharist.
Each student donated a can of food which was brought forth as part of the service and collected for St. Bridget’s Food Bank.
After the service, second grade students carried 2 tubs, 7 heavy baskets, and many bags filled with canned food from school, across the street to St. Bridget’s.
The church was very grateful and explained to our students where the food goes and why it is so badly needed.
Thank you to all the families who donated!
Shrinking BIGFOOT
This week Villa 3rd-5th grade students attended an educational assembly presented by Seattle’s Triangle Associates, an environmental consulting practice that provides public involvement services and environmental education in the Pacific Northwest.
This very theatrical presentation, entitled Shrinking Bigfoot, takes students on an imaginary adventure to learn about the cause of climate change and what we can each do to reduce our BIG carbon FOOT print.
