Volleyball’s Winning Season Ends
CYO Volleyball season ended this past week. The 6th grade Blue team lost in the quarterfinals to St Brendan to finish their season 8-1. The 7th grade girls lost to St Joseph-Seattle in the semifinals. Overall a very successful season, as all four middle school teams qualified for the playoffs. Our 5th through 8th grade teams compiled a 35-9 overall record. Congratulations to all the girls and many thanks to the coaches, scorekeepers and line judges who made the season a success!
Please remember, Volleyball jerseys are due by May 25th to avoid a $30 non-return fee. Jerseys should be returned to the bin in the foyer of the gym or to the main office. Jerseys should be bagged and labeled to ensure proper credit for your return
Poetry Night 2012
Poetry Night has come to the mark the beginning of the end of students’ tenure at Villa Academy. The evening is an extremely special one at Villa, because the focus is on parents, friends, and family members and a way of saying “Thank You!” for all their love and support.
This is the 18th annual Poetry Night, initially created by Ms. O’Donnell as a fund-raiser for a friend who was a victim of a violent crime. As part of the eighth grade poetry and creative writing unit in Mr. Mabbott’s English class, poems are a mixture of blank and free verse, limericks, haikus, cinquians, literary and religious poems, “Choices” pantoums about the challenges of high school, and creative “Fiction 55” short stories.
This year’s Poetry Night a roaring success. Our graduating eighth graders really shined as the wonderful young adults we’ve all inspired them to be.
Almsgiving to help the students of Kenya
Villa Academy second graders raised $1,032.75 for the students of Gede Angels Primary, a new school on the east coast of Kenya.
The fundraising project began on Ash Wednesday as part of the class’s third trimester service project. During Lent, second grade classes focused on three areas of self-examination: Fasting (not necessarily from food); Prayer (learning more about prayer through writing); and Almsgiving (service to those in need).
In the spirit of giving, students gave of their free time to do extra service at home to raise money for the needs of the elementary school in Kenya.
With donations from last year, Gade Angels Primary was able to build a new lavatory at the school. Villa Academy hasn’t heard what this year’s project will be, but students hope to learn before the school year is out.
Thank you to the second grade parents who generosity supported this fundraiser and helped our students learn about sacrifice during Lent.

Litterless Campaign
Third grade students at Villa Academy have launched a “Litterless Campaign” to reduce litter and raise awareness of how litter negatively affect the environment. Students are focused on cleaning up the grounds, especially the woods below the school where trash is frequently found.
As part of their campaign, students produced and filmed, “The Littermess Monster, a movie about litter . . . .
New Lower School Director (for the day)
Fifth grader, Will J roamed the school with Mrs. Elsner today, as acting Lower School Director. You may have seen him wearing his official “Lower School Director” tee and carrying a clipboard of notes regarding this morning’s meeting with Head of School, Mr. Milroy.
Carpool duty, intercom announcements, and classroom inspections kept Will pretty busy all morning. But, he did find time for a little fun!
Unfortunately for Will, he’s not on the payroll, his special day came courtesy of his parents, the highest bidders for Mrs. Elsner’s experience item at this year’s fundraising auction.
Thanks for all your hard work today Will!
