Volleyball registration extended
The deadline for CYO volleyball registrations has been extended to Wednesday January 25th, to account for the missed snow days last week. All late registrations will incur a $20 late fee. Students who have not participated in a CYO sport need to complete the Annual CYO forms in addition to the Volleyball Registration Form
CYO volleyball registration is open for girls and boys in grades 5 through 8.

Navigating the Next Steps Toward Kindergarten
P4 and P5 Families are cordially invited to have coffee, treats, and conversation with Lower School Director, Jody Elsner, on either Wednesday, Jan. 25th or Friday, Jan. 27th, at 8:30 am in the parlor.
Our time together will be focused on “Navigating the Next Steps Toward Kindergarten”.
- What does a kindergarten ready student look like at Villa?
- How are our current preschool children prepared for kindergarten in the Villa program?
- What do we look for in students applying to kindergarten who don’t attend our preschool?
- What assessments does Villa use to measure kindergarten readiness, both for current preschool students and new applicants? What do those measures show? How are they used?
- If Villa is a school that is child centered, and focuses on the “whole child”, how do those two values play out in this process?
- What if I am not sure if my child is ready for kindergaten?
- and all those other things you are wondering about!

Food Lifeline’s Repackathon
Villa fourth graders will visit Food Lifeline’s Volunteer Repack Center during the second week of February. Each class will have the opportunity to volunteer their service for three hours to assist with necessary projects that may include labeling packaged products, inspecting and sorting food donations, or repackaging bulk donated products.
Villa’s partnership with Food Lifeline has been a very rewarding ongoing relationship. Helping with the organization and dissemination of thousands of pounds of food to those in need is one of many ways students participate in the Cabrinian tradition.
If your family would like to join the effort, consider signing up for Food Lifeline’s Repackathon on February 11th, 2012. The REPACKATHON is a volunteering marathon featuring non-stop music, competitive spirit, and teamwork to get thousands of pounds of food ready for hungry families. 2nd grade gives Mr. Milroy virtual tour
Mrs. O’Neil’s 2nd grade computer class gave Mr. Milroy a virtual tour of campus through the presentation of a collaboratively produced picture book, featuring digitally enhanced photographs of Villa’s historically rich architecture. Students photographed an assortment of images around campus before carefully narrowing their selection to the final collection of photos. Each student used the Pixie program to enhance the appearance of a photo, by modifying the color or applying a special effect. Every page included a letter to Mr. Milroy, composed by the students in Kidpsiration, explaining its historical or religious significances.

Lunchroom Waste Challenge = Free Dress
Congratulations to Villa middle school students – they passed the Lunchroom Waste Challenge!!! The contest started over a month ago, and while the students narrowly missed passing after the first three weeks, they succeeded in their efforts on the last two.
Each day for two weeks, students were graded on their lunchroom waste-line performance – making sure all the dirty cups were neatly arranged, the food waste was all inside the bag, the trays were all stacked correctly, and their general waste-line crowd behavior was fairly calm. For their efforts, they earned an extra day of free dress on Friday, January 13th.
A special thanks goes out to the student waste-line monitors – students from the advisories of Ms. Smith and Ms. Calomeni and members of the Green Team that stepped up on various days.
