Almsgiving to help the students of Kenya

Villa Academy second graders raised $1,032.75 for the students of Gede Angels Primary, a new school on the east coast of Kenya.

The fundraising project began on Ash Wednesday as part of the class’s third trimester service project. During Lent, second grade classes focused on three areas of self-examination:  Fasting (not necessarily from food); Prayer (learning more about prayer through writing); and Almsgiving (service to those in need).

In the spirit of giving, students gave of their free time to do extra service at home to raise money for the needs of the elementary school in Kenya.

With donations from last year, Gade Angels Primary was able to build a new lavatory at the school.  Villa Academy hasn’t heard what this year’s project will be, but students hope to learn before the school year is out.

Thank you to the second grade parents who generosity supported this fundraiser and helped our students learn about sacrifice during Lent.
